As soon as you feel that things are starting to come together, the rug is pulled and you’re left sprawling and spluttering for answers. But mostly it’s a gripping whodunit wherein the plot is always thickening. The author also cleverly combines genres, so at times it feels like a horror book, and a very scary one at that.

The author’s love of Stephen King is well documented and the maestro’s influence can certainly be felt here, though it’s certainly more in the way of inspiration than derivation. The narrative switches between the present day and 1986 (as an eighties kid I particularly enjoyed the nostalgic references) and tells of a group of young kids who experience a traumatic childhood event, the repercussions of which extend into adulthood. Here's the review I put on Goodreads: There’s been a lot of buzz about this book and it’s easy to see why. I was fortunate enough to receive an Advance Reader Copy.
